FLIGHTS
The best airport to fly into for staying in New Jersey is Newark Airport (EWR). This is roughly a 40-minute drive from the wedding venue location and accessible to various locations in New Jersey and NYC via train (the NJ transit).
One can also fly into JFK Airport, in Queens, NYC, which is a longer journey for getting into New Jersey using the subway system and then the NJ transit train.
Finally, there is LaGuardia Airport (LGA), a smaller airport in Queens that would also involve the subway system plus NJ transit for getting into New Jersey.
ACCOMMODATION
The venue is in a small township called Holmdel, NJ. Some of the closest hotels that still have availability are the following, all 10-15 minutes drive away or less:
The closest option to wedding venue, a small boutique hotel. You will get a discount if you give the code: Kanwal Byrne
For the wedding group discount, book via the following link:
Group Code: KBW
Group Cut-Off date: 06/01/2024
Airbnb
If you’re looking to stay at an Airbnb or other larger shared accommodation for a group of people, some towns that would be good to stay in or near that are close to the wedding venue and also near an NJ Transit train station for going into NYC are: Hazlet, Aberdeen/Matawan, Red Bank, and Keansburg. Or if you want to be by the nicer part of the Jersey shore but still near a train station, Long Branch is good but on the pricier side to stay in. If you want to be a little closer to NYC but not too far from the wedding venue, Edison and Woodbridge are good options since the train station there (Metropark Station) has shorter and more frequent trains into the city. Edison/Woodbridge also has many affordable hotel options.
If you need any more info or help in finding a place, feel free to reach out to Darragh, Simren, or Simren’s parents!
THINGS TO DO
NYC!
There are unlimited things to do in the city of course, especially in the summer! Central Park is a must-do in the summer, and just walking around the streets of Manhattan and taking it all in could fill a day. The NJ Transit train ride from Hazlet train station (10 minutes drive from the wedding venue) to NY Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan is anywhere from 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on whether you take the express train or not.
The Jersey Shore
No, it isn’t as trashy as it may seem from the show, I promise! There are some great beaches, just about 25 minutes drive south from Holmdel, such as Asbury Park (our personal favorite, featured in the Sopranos) and Pier Village in West Long Branch. These are family friendly beaches with boardwalks, soft sand, and some big ocean waves!
The “Garden State”
That’s right, New Jersey is known as the Garden State, and for a good reason! It has many beautiful state parks and just nice small green parks too, with Holmdel having a lovely one of its own that has numerous walking and running trails plus an animal petting farm for the kids.
